‘Stars’ On Track For Third Classic
Storm The Stars (Sea The Stars {Ire}), third in the G1 Epsom Derby and second in the G1 Irish Derby, will make a third attempt at a Classic score in the G1 St Leger at Doncaster Sept. 12 and Bruce Raymond, racing manger to owner Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum, declared the 3-year-old “the one they all have to beat.” Storm The Stars’s most recent outing was a win over Bondi Beach (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G2 Great Voltigeur S. at York Aug. 19, which followed a third in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris five weeks earlier.
“Storm The Stars has come out of York in great form and everything is fine with him,” said Raymond. “I thought it was a good performance in the Voltigeur. He was game and really stuck his head down in the final furlong. The form of that race looks strong and I think he is the one they all have to beat at Doncaster. The others need to improve to beat him–I’m not saying they won’t, but they need to.”
Storm The Stars, the current 7-2 second choice for the St Leger with Ladbrokes, will race beyond 12 furlongs for the first time in the St Leger, which is 14 1/2 furlongs. Currently favored for the historic Classic is Tabor, Smith and Magnier’s Order Of St George (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who is 3-1 after winning The Curragh’s G3 Irish St Leger Trial S. over 14 furlongs last weekend.
